Undocumented Features

The following items are known issues in FLEx on Linux and are not to be reported on or commented about in this report. I think if the dev team already knows about something, then why point it at them again?

These comments were graciously provided by a collegue who also used Linux and FLEx.

  • The already the cursor offset (mid line in some texts the cursor visually does not corespond to where the computer thinks the line should be edited).
  • In Interlinear text, the scrolling is very jumpy - I don't seem to be able to scroll anything less than a full screen by using the scroll wheel of my mouse, which is my preferred way of scrolling

  • The kmfl/Ibus combo does not understand that I am not having an American keyboard layout (you probably won't hit this problem). This only affects me in FLEx.

  • In the old days long interlinear texts let the software crash, but only in the baseline view (where they were not interlinear)

  • Switching between different views sometimes takes a very long time, and some screen information remains lost that way. Some dividing lines appear double.

All things told, I'm mostly using FLEx on my Windows 10 virtual machine. It is just not much fun using it in Linux...

My observation form my college's comments is that FLEx users on Linux are beginning to find that it is easier to run Windows in a virtual machine on Linux with FLEx inside than to actually run FLEx “on Linux”. The motivation for these additional layers of complexity are all because of UX issues within FLEx. This seems to me then that UX is really an important issue and should be elevated in the implementation priorities of the FLEx dev team.
